america will be a desert in x years
I have seen the “wild” lawn grow 100% more flowers than the “manicured” variety
only nature’s abhorrent and desolate seem to appreciate conformity
my ancestors strained to lose their tongue
and become faithfully pale,
yet their gravestones reflect a secret desire for difference–
! flowerless monuments !
and still the moss soothes them a gentle green
our children playing amongst the sands discover a forgotten name
may your soul leap with tender recognition
that to be a grain of sand is to be a prophet
to a distant land

Penny Mann | My name is Penny Mann and I am a 25-year-old artist living in Albany Park, Chicago. Poetry is how I explore the surreal and spiritual experiences of being alive. I love writing about how my dreams bleed into reality in unexpected ways and how exactly I ended up where I am today.
Frank Geiser is an artist and arts educator based in the greater Chicago area. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Geiser received his MFA at the University of Kentucky in 2021, where he was the recipient of a funded TA position. He received his BFA with concentrations in painting and photography from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2018, where he was the recipient of a Xavier University Art Award and a Winter-Cohen Family Brueggeman Fellowship.
Geiser is an assistant professor of practice in Visual Communication and Design at Purdue University Northwest. His work has been shown internationally and is part of 21c museums’ collection. Geiser’s work was also included in a “Home Not Home” exhibition at Agitator Gallery in Chicago through Anysquared Projects.
Having studied design, photography, painting, sculpture, digital fabrication, and electronics, Geiser uses this diverse educational background to explore a wide variety of different processes in his practice.
